Training Workshop in Addictions and Co-Occurring Disorders
In this workshop, professionals will review the treatment manual entitled: Addiction and Co-occurring Disorders from a
(Self-Management and Recovery Training) SMART Recovery® perspective facilitated by the co-author. This treatment program
was developed at Brockville Mental Health Centre. This program aims to engage the individual in the recovery process, to
increase individuals' level of insight, and to motivate and sustain change through education and skill development.
The facilitator will review the program in its entirety including the assessment of clients, program application and
current research.
Prior training in REBT or other forms of CBT is recommended.
Eligibility
Open to addiction professionals, counsellors, nurses, mental health service providers, personal support workers, child and youth workers, social service staff and other helping professionals (e.g., education assistants, clergy, and correctional staff).
On completion, participants will:
- Assess clients and determine delivery method that best meets the need of the client
- Understand how to use the manual and modify it based on the needs of the client population
- Identify, challenge and dispute clients' irrational beliefs and employ behavioural interventions
- Integrate RE&CBT with 12-step and rehab. programs and SMART® Recovery
