Professional Training: SECPAR
Secondary Training in Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy for Paraprofessionals

This 3–day workshop is designed to further participants' knowledge of the theory and practice Rational Emotive and Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (RE&CBT) and its clinical applications. The workshop is suitable for helping professionals (e.g. addiction counselors, rehabilitation and case workers) who have received REBT paraprofessional certificate training. Such professionals are expected to have been using the skills in their clinical practice since the initial paraprofessional training. The workshop consists of didactic lectures on further exploration of the basic theory of RE&CBT, its methods and technique. The workshop will expand on previous knowledge and reinforced the RE&CBT skills. Participants will use the Master Therapist Video Series and peer counseling sessions to hone their assessment, case conceptualizations, and intervention skills.


Eligibility:

Open to counsellors, nurses, personal support workers, mental health service workers, mental health service providers and other helping professionals (e.g., alcoholism counsellors, rehabilitation workers)

On completion, participants will:

  • Become more familiar with the basic theory and techniques of RE&CBT
  • Become more confidence in identification of IB and RB
  • To integrate affective and behavioral interventions into each session of therapy
  • Apply the model a variety of clinical situations
